I have a 5 yr old gateway laptop I am trying to resurect for utility purposes. It has a 2GHz Celeron and 512Mof DDR2 Ram, 40G hard drive..
I want to wipe the drive and reinstall my Gateway XP and drivers. How should I go about this to insure I can boot from the CD drive after reformat/wipe, and what is the best method to do this.
I am doing this because it has gotten incredibly slow and I am betting some windows files are missing or corrupt.
I am fairly computer savvy, I just haven't messed around with laptops too much.
Any advice is appreciated. I just plan to use this for some equipment interface, web surfing, and possibly for a camera security system.

Yes. The XP disk is labeled Gateway. It has the OEM/Gateway drivers too. I tried to do a repair and it didn't seem to work well. I just want to start from scratch.
