Looking for input/feedback/gripes on solid state disks.
Anyone here using them yet. How much faster are they? Are there any situations where they would be slower? |

Are you referring to SSD? as in "vs. HDD?"
My Aspire One uses an SSD. I don't see any real difference in speed but then I'm not using a lot of resouce-hogging programs on mine, and Linux uses less RAM. I am told that SSD's tend to run slower than a platter-type drive. What exactly are you considering purchasing? |

I'm thinking about this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227373 Or this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220342 Patrick Norton said solid state disks are "stupid fast" in a little blurb on either System or Tekzilla so I though I would check them out. I don't always think the Rev 3 guys have their heads screwed on straight though. |

I don't always think the Rev 3 guys have their heads screwed on straight though. SSD can be very fast; there are a lot of other issues involved, including the speed of the disk interface itself. Patrick tends to go right into hyperbole mode when he likes something. Remember that the Rev 3 guys have a mission to entertain, as well as provide information. |
