I can get Vista Ultimate from my school for around $14 and I already have office as well as Kaspersky Internet Security. I mostly want to just run pictures, music, and movies with no problems whatsoever, and also maybe play some older games like Age of Empires II, Starcraft, and Command and Conquer Generals. That'd be about the extent of my gaming, this would do me pretty well right?

ETA: adding the links, all from newegg

Maybe get a nvidia based video card and not amd.  i say that because of the quality of ati's drivers.

This. Otherwise, good for your stated intent.

I would add a second hard drive for data, or at least partition the hard drive you have for data.  Makes data recovery and reformatting to clear out malware or other issues much less painful.

I would put 2 DVD drives in just in case Vista needs to load the sata drivers.

Or, I guess you could put them on a thumb drive.
