I'm trying to connect my desktop to an AT&T wireless ready DSL modem. The desktop was previously connected to a cable modem.

I've installed all the drivers for a Belkin N wireless USB adapter. When trying to connect to the network, I get a warning that this connection has limited or no connectivity because the IP address could not be renewed.

There must be some setting I'm missing on my desktop, because the wireless is working fine on my laptop(how I'm typing this).

Any suggestions?

Are your tcp/ip settings set to obtain automatically?

I believe they are, but I can't seem to find it in the control panel.

open control panel >  network connections >  open the network card in use > open properties > it should list tcpip.  make sure its on automatic

OK, I checked and it's set to obtain the IP address automatically. Still won't connect.

turn encryption off and see if it will connect.  then bump up the encryption untill it stays connected reliably

If you have Vista it could be that your ATT Modem/Router can't process the DHCP discovery packets, if so.

I'd change to fixed IP addresses, MAC filtering and encryption for wireless.. sure its a little more work, but harder for someone you don't want, to get in.

Those AT&T DSL wireless modem routers are complete and utter garbage.  It reboots the whole OS on the thing every time you change a setting and will cause you continual problems with IP address assignments using DHCP or not.

Turn off the wireless, stick another real router behind it, and use that for DHCP and Wireless.

Or just go to BB and get yourself a dedicated DSL modem and use your own router.
