Anyone ever damage a touch pad mouse pad on a laptop by static electricty?

i destroyed a brand new compaq laptop(touchpad) several years ago( RIGHT outta the box) it was winter dry, i was walking around and ZaaP

varies by laptop. i would call a local computer repair shop and have them give you an estimate. there would be no diagnostic charge just have them price you a touch pad and the labor to have it installed.
