Anti-spy ware is due for renewal , is there a better anti-spy to run for XP or should I just stick with this?  I had P-Cillin in the past and that is a no-go , I didn't like it. I do have Defender running in the background but I'm not sure if that will be enough on it's own. Any recommendations will be considered.  Looking for the "latest and greatest" thanks......

ETA: I'm using OPERA for my browser if that makes any difference...

i've been running Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and AVG Antivirus without any problems for quite some time...

before that i was running ad-aware, spybot S&D, and spywareblaster with Norton Antivirus... i spent more time updating spyware definitions...

all of this stuff is free.

Are you looking for antispyware or antivirus?

There are tons of good antispyware programs, but not as many antivirus.

I will predicate that I work for Symantec, so there you go..

I brother uses Norton 360 and said it works very well. I had a subscription to Nod32 from Eset since before I worked for Symantec, so I was not about to just go waste the money I had already spent and buy a Symantec product.

I would recommend nod32 as it has been the best reviewed and performing AV for quite sometime. It is not free, but I also believe in you get what you pay for..

Do not use any Norton product... they all suck and cause more problems than they prevent.

However, Symantec Corporate Edition is the way to go IF you have to have a Symantec/Norton product.

Otherwise get stuff like Ewido, Ad-Aware, Spybot, XoftSpy for anti-spyware. AVG makes a decent Anti-spyware program that will run all the time to catch things before they get to the infection state.

I wish they would combine their AV software with their Anti-spyware stuff instead of having to have two different programs.

Wrap the firewall in that to make a great trifecta!

I've been using the free versions of SpyBot and AdAware with no complaints.

Eh, I don't waste my time with software firewalls.

I've been using Live OneCare for my home PCs.  It works for what I need, but I do not like any of symantec's products.

Norton is invasive as hell and it sucks ass.   It completely failed to protect my PC when I needed to.    Full crash resulted from a stupid virus that EVERY other anti-virus software could detect and delete, except for Norton.

I now use Kaspersky.  It's unobtrusive and works.

I know you're asking about firewalls,  not antivirus software, but I have lost all faith
in Norton and McAfee is even worse.  It's even MORE intrusive and obstructive than
Norton is.   Find something else.
