Time to upgrade.
I have had the same 19" dell monitor for the past 8 years.
I know nothing about flat screens.  Need one.  What brands are the best deals?  Where are the best deals?  What should I look for?  Minimum size?
Next, want a new computer.
My current 3.0 prescott is OK, but my 9 year old needs his own box.

I want to build my own, but I also pay for my software.  I don't think I can build my own for cheaper than I can buy.
I won't buy dell because the ones at work are shit.
What are the specs I need?  Toughest app will be CoD4.
what are some good online boxes to look for?
Thanks in advance for tips.

You can build your own cheaper than you can buy an already made one.

I picked up an AMD X2 (2 cores) for $550.

If you look around you can get an Acer 22" widescreen for around $200.00 when they go on sale. That's not much more expensive than a 19" and it's about 1/2 the price of a 24".

It's always better to build your own if you can.

Intel Core 2 Duo
ASUS Socket 775 motherboard
2gig DDR2 RAM (minimum)
Western Digital SATA HD
DVD +-R burner
Antec tower
450w power supply (or higher)
ATI Radeon video card

The above tower will cost about $650.00 to build if you shop around.

I built my own last time.
What killed me was software.
A legit copy of XP is what puts me over the top.
But I like building my own because upgrading is easier.
My Dell was almost all proprietary and damn near impossible to upgrade the RAM and CPU.

Did you shop around for your copy of XP?  I got an OEM version of XP pro last year for $90 shipped via Pricegrabber.

Use the XP copy in your old machine and install it in the new one.  Done.

Of course, you wont be able to use XP on the old machine.
