i just got a linksys router. i dont know a lot about them( looks like im about to learn). its a BEFSR41 version 3. i cant get it to work. i tried the easy link connect and that didnt work. i cant get the 192.168.1.1 to do anything either. tech support is no help (on hold for ever literaly). any one have any quick fixes, tips something.

it is used but i bought it from some one i trust and if i cant get it to work he said he'd give me a net gear or whatever it was. ( he let me pick whatever one i wanted, i guess flashy purple caught my attention. )

What's not working?  Your computer doesn't  have a connection or you have no internet access?

no internet access. when i did the easy link connect it says that it doesnt see the router.

sorry my computer fu isnt as strong as it should be.

im told that you have to get "into" the router using the 192.168.1.1 but that isnt working.

What Operating System are you running?

Click on "Start" and "Run".  Type in CMD and press enter.  At the prompt type "ipconfig" and report back the info.

Open up an IE or Firefox window and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and hit enter.  It should take you to the login page of the router.  I can't remember if the default setting is Admin for the user name with no password or Admin for the password with no username.

Open up that cmd prompt again.  Type ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and tell me if it gives you the same numbers.

Then try typing ping 192.168.1.1

Which IE are you using?

I don't know why it would be secure, but try using https://192.168.1.1

Your IPConfig shows you are getting an IP address from your router. DSL or cable ?

ETA allthough 192.168.1.6 is a strange number for only one computer.

It should be 192.168.1.2  or 192.168.1.100

Is your computer set for static ip address or DHCP?

You tried pushing the reset button on the router yet? If it was used, might need to clear out its settings.

I have had two different linksys wireless routers... it is at this point I offer my very first ARFCOM "Draw Down"

Are you running Norton?... The one I am using now, I had to completely disable Norton to set up the router, once I got the router working with the computer, I then turned on Norton and twiddled it until everything worked out... that's the best lead I can offer.. good luck
