I'm happy with mcafee, but I keep hearing it's a resource hog. I've used Norton and compared to that mcafee seems fine Right now mcafee and all it's various items that show up in task mamanger are usign a combined 17.3MB of ram. If it matters my system has been up for 14 days, I've opened and closed multiple programs in that time, and currently have firefox, 3 explorer windows, Trillian, and Bitspirit running so I figure this is a good average for mcafee as it's not right after bootup and it's with my normal daily loadout of active programs How does AVG compare? |
MacAfee is not as much of a hog like Norton as it is not as effective as AVG. I saw some recent testing and MacAfee was missing up to 40% of the bugs they threw at it, Norton did not fare well either. AVG, avast and some of the other free anti-virus were doing a lot better. It has been about a month since I saw the article but I will try and dig it up. I do know people that I have gotten to use AVG seem to have much fewer problems which is not necessarily good from my point of view. Some insist that a free anti-virus cannot be as good as something that they pay for. |

from what I can tell, although AVG has a free version it also has a regular version. Which makes me think the free one is probably to get people hooked and get them exposure so when the boss at a company asks his techs for an AV product for their server they'll buy the server version of AVG at first I was wary of a free AV program but then I found out that it's not just some freeware some college kid makes in his spare time like a lot of free utilities but is made by an actual company. I downloaded AVG, so I might try it out. found this anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ |
