Hey guys I want to build a desktop....primary purpose will be video editing. Gaming is not important at all. I'll obviously need a big HDD, plus a good video card and a chunk of memory. Can anyone guide me through the process? Any online guides? I've heard that pricewatch.com is a good place to get prices. I'm *ok* with stuff like this...I'm comfortable cracking a case open and putting in a video card or a CD drive, but I've never done it from scratch. What say ye? |

I built mine, it was a little intimidating, but was actually easier than it looked.... Only problem I ran into was that it wouldn't work...(yeah, just a little glitch after almost a year, someone went online to get the driver for the motherboard instead of using the one on the cd rom like everyone else did, guess the cd rom driver was bad.. works great ever since (x-cept for the damn viruses... |

most of my parts i've gotten from newegg lately i just ordered a powersupply should be here wednesday. anyways i have built a couple AMD X2 systems they are extremly fast. had a customer that went from a p4 hyper threading system with 1gb of ram to a 3800+x2 system. he said it was night and day differernce. it was so much faster he said. make sure you get a SATA II compatible board. a fast WD raptor or SATA II high capacity drive from seagate. i would use the raptor for your OS drive then the seagate's for your data storage. i buy asus boards. crucial, corsair xms memory, seagate / WD harddrive/ plextor or liteon dvd-rw drives. make sure you get at least a 450 watt powersupply. (i just ordered the ocz from newegg for my system. on processors make sure you buy retail box that way you get the three year warranty. i still use the heatsink and fan that comes with the cpu. never bothered with 3rd party crap. nvidia are good video cards. |
