I have an encrypted wireless network at work, with a Linksys Wireless G access point coming off the Time-Warner provided Cisco router. The previous owner (a law firm) had a mare's nest of CAT 5 running to some sort of patch panel on the second floor, and then back out to the offices on the firs, second and third floor. I haven't got time right now to figure that out. The signal is weak in places on the second floor of this huge old Victorian. I have had no luck in the past with range extenders. Can I run a CAT 5 cable upstairs and put a second wireless access point on that floor? I know it will be a different network. |

you can setup the access point as a repeater if its close enough. but like you said it might not be close enough. (its a pain in the butt too) running the cable would be a good way. just plug the cable in, run the cd(that came with the AP), setup the encryption. setup a new ssid and you will be up and running setup the new encrption key in the laptop. then the laptop with connect to it automatically as long as its in range |
