SP2 has security updates and vulneraibility fixes.

I wouldn't recommend removing it. Although I do hate the firewall crap they included with it.

I actually don't care My computer has never run so damn slow ever. And i've never had as many problems with it as i have since I installed that damn program. I can't even reliably run pinnical and edit video and it's totaly pissing me off. And my install/unistall list won't even populate now either.

When SP2 gets installed ok, it runs well.  But somewhere around 5% (some said closer to 10%) of SP2 installs get hosed which means basically (without some superhero-IT-guy showing up...if you meet him, let me know!):
* Use a restore point to a date earlier than your SP2 installation
* reinstall Windows (nuke it from orbit, just to be sure)
* Live with the hosed SP2

A number of background fixes on SP2 were needed, but a number of the front-end-annoying things are...well...annoying.  But I recommend it just for the backend fixes.

Better luck on the next time around.

sounds like you have other problems than just SP2.  backup your data and do a fresh install

BTW how much memory do you have in this system?

What type?
RAM 512mb

Befoire the SP2 install I never had a problem running pinnical to edit video. never had a problem with photoshop either and now I do. I may just have to have my uncle take a look at it the next time I see him. Or pack it up and go out by his place and have him check it out.

Use System Restore and restore to a date prior to SP2 install.  Do it for the children.

I am running fine w/o sp2.  Be sure to turn off the update reminder for sp2 so you won't accidentally install it again.

from microsoft

if your main issue is pinnacle.  check their web page for patches, or software updates.  the version your using might not work well with sp2

If you end up re-installing XP via a reformat, do yourself a favor and make a partition just for WinXP.  I don't know what your setup is, but if you have a system-restore type disk, make sure you format a partition large enough for XP + whatever goes on C: from the system restore disk.  Once you have Windows re-installed, you can format new partitions of whatever size you want from XP itself.

This will save you alot of head banging if XP ever takes a dump on you again.  You won't lose any data besides what is on C: (that means keep all your personal files/created files on some other partition than C:).

This is how I have my PC setup, and I love it.  I had to re-install XP, but I really didn't worry about it.  I didn't lose any data, but I did lose my personal Mozilla settings.  That was a drag, but that was th only bad thing about my re-install.

If you create a BartPE disk, you'll never have to reformat again. I can provide a very stable ISO (for free) that I maintain monthly (I say monthly, I really only update it when Stinger is updated and I spot driver updates for NICs and HBAs...) to anyone interested.

i use bart pe, knoppix and other tools daily I would be willing to give it a try.

I use nod32  to scan Hd's for virus(and other's).  it has a dos version that will scan NTFS partitions

I just slipstreamed all of my XP licenses to SP-2 so i won't have to install the service pack after installing XP (saves on time). I don't have any problems...
