been toying with the idea of getting one for a while, but when my crt went kaput i got one. let me tell you, these things kick arse. if you have been avoiding one because they 'are not as good when playing games' then it's time to re-think. no ghosting at all when playing mohaa, bf1942 or call of duty. display is ***crystal*** clear. does not heat up the room like a friggin bonfire either. i looked at staples and they had some pretty nice ones, but pricey. finally got a 17" sony delivered to my door via fedex for $424. check out newegg.com if you are interested. no, i am nothing to them but a satisfied customer. the only reason i post this is because people had always told me that lcd monitors suck at games, especially fp shooters (and that's about all i play) and they DO NOT. if you are in the market for a new monitor, go for it. happy gaming, atarian |

Two issues (three if you count that the things cost three times as much!) 1) Response time - 16 msec is what your glass monitor does ... the better LCD's will do 25 msec (lower is better). Make sure the manufacture is stating rise and fall times combined not just one or the other. 2) Resolution - LCD's have one sweet resolution the rest look like, well, crap. Most have a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, some games will not support that resolution so you get queer looking text and lines. Brightness has come up some and contrast ratio is a much over blown spec. 1:200 is probably good enough for a room with a light on in it. Hell you all are amazed by high-def television and it's contrast ratio is almost 1:15 (7.5 IRE to 100 IRE). I'm running twin 19" glass monitors which means I'm in for a nice $1200 to $1400 bill to match them with LCD panels. |
| We picked up some 20" NEC lcd's ($1499) for our document control group at work, and their best resolution is 1600x1200. Problem is, most of the users are older ladies that have poor vision and run them at 800x600! At that resolution, the images are distorted and text doesn't look that great. |

A better solution would be to run at 1600x1200 and jack up the font size! Graphics and text will both look great. |
