My son's laptop (HP) quit powering up on the battery so he bought a new one which didn't fix the problem.
The only way to power it up is to hold the power button down for approx 30 secs or so. While holding it down, plug the power cord in and release the power button and it boots up. Anyone ever experience this? I don't even know where to begin to try and sort it out. |

Been there.
There is a white one right beside the jack for the power supply cord. it lights up when I plug the power supply in. Goes out when I unplug it. It doesn't blink, no beeps from the hd. |

The battery is in or out while doing this? or same either way? When you say "no beeps from the hard drive" can you hear it spinning up at all, just not initializing (beeps), or No noise at all from the HD? |

wow, that is really really weird..... but you do have to do this strange procedure each time you start up?
Is the battery a generic replacement? HP is known to make its printers lock up with generic ink tanks (don't ask me how i know I have no windows experience with anything past win 7, but this honestly sounds like some odd hardware gremlin...... sorry my advice is only worth what ya pay for it, but I am stumped..... |

I'm not sure what type of new battery he bought but the one I have is the original.
The laptop is just over a year old...which reminded me why I've never been a HP fan. In order to boot it up I had to do the method I mentioned above..however it rebooted by itself..

Try removing the battery and then plug it in. The power button should turn it on with one press.
If you have to hold the power button down, then it probably means the laptop is in hybernation mode and won't wake up until you power it off with the override (hold power button for >5 seconds). One of my laptops had that issue after ugrading to Windows 10 but a bios update just fixed it. Make sure you always shut it down, or disable the sleep/hibernation mode, and then it won't go "dead". |

How does it behave when you reboot it? (Use the reboot option in windows.) Being able to reboot and not boot is an indicator of a hardware problem, not a software problem. |
| Asus informed me their laptops wouldn't fully boot up if there's a static issue. I was told to hold the power button in for 8 seconds for a full shut down, unplug power source and any peripherals, hold the power down for 60 seconds. That's how it purges or some shit, THEN it restarted like normal. Had to do it once, it powered up but I don't understand the static issue. |
