You're not going to get a lot of power out of $300 in a mITX form factor. If you are looking for really tiny, then find the most powerful Intel NUC or Gigabyte BRIX you can afford.
You can also build a mITX sytem in a larger case with the ability to add a discrete graphics card. The thing with emulators is to get as beefy of a system as you can get. I'm not sure how much performance you will get out of a $300 system with that particular emulator. You could really only reasonably get a mITX MB, a moderately powerful processor, and maybe a case for $300. |

Would have been nice to re-use a case I have, but really don't even need one inside of the cabinet. I have an external hyperspin drive. For lack of a better term: How much "beef" do you need? Example: AMD Athlon X4 760K - $73.88 Gigabyte GA-F2A58M-HD2 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard - $40 Team Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory - $56 Asus GeForce GTX 750 1GB Video Card - $105 Crucial 32gb SSD (OS drive) - $36 EVGA 80+ 500W PSU - $15 $325.28 |

Few emulators leverage GPUs, they're all very CPU intense. You'd be best off with a processor that does single-threaded tasks very efficiently; for that reason I'd go Intel, since you can't leverage the good multi-threading capability of the AMD processors. However, some emus, like Dolphin, are taking advtantage of GPUs, so having at least a last gen mid-range card would be good to have.

Thanks guys. Lots of conflicting information all over the web.
Sent an email to a guy that makes the pre loaded drives. He says i3, 4gb and GeForce EN210 will run anything 3D mame. Just want to "buy once, cry once" but there just doesn't seem to be any straight answer. |

You don't need much memory, just a good CPU and a lot of storage space. Only a handful of emulators take advantage of multi-core processors and GPUs, so there's no reason to spend coin there. |
