Took the side panel off a few days ago and noticed a large build-up of dust, so I dissembled the PC and cleaned everything. It was functioning before I took it apart, but after the clean-up and re-assembly, it failed to work and started emitting a beep code. The code is: one short beep, one long beep. On the suggestion of YouTube, I tried starting it up with the RAM in different slots, but it kept giving the same beep code. Not sure what else to try, other than replacement parts. It's a pretty old system and is probably overdue for replacement, but I can't really afford one at the moment. Any help getting it working would be much appreciated. I'll try and provide any further info on it to help. Thanks. |

Beep codes are specific to your BIOS - what BIOS do you have? You can get this by entering BIOS and seeing what it says at top. 1 Beep is usually a memory error though. I know you've reseated the sticks but have you checked that everything else is seated correctly? You didn't jam any dust or anything into the RAM slots? Have you cleared the CMOS? |
| Make sure the ram is really seated. insure the release arms are all the way out from the slot and then put the mem in the slot (making sure the slot in the dimm is lined up to the slot) and push down hard with both thumbs at the same time. then insure the tabs are both closed. |

Haven't been able to find a specific answer to what BIOS it should have. I wish I'd checked when it was running properly.
It all seems good. The sockets look clean and power is being supplied to everything, but no display on-screen and it still emits the beep code. Just cleared it - still no luck.
