My PC will randomly freeze, sometimes will just not wake up from a nap, and sometimes will display a gray grid on the monitor. Turning it off and turning it back on again works but this is becoming more frequent. The CPU/mobo/memory/PSU are 3 years old, GPU is 7 months old and I replaced the CPU cooler about a month ago. Is there a software tool that I can get that will tell me what is failing?

Laptop or desktop?

Any obvious heat issues?

Desktop. Cores and GPU are between 30 and 34C.

My 6 y/o desktop started having issues, and it turned out to be swollen capacitors on the motherboard.  Some are easier to spot than others.  Look for the can-shaped components, and see if any have tops that look like they're bulging out.  That indicates the electrolytic solution inside them is breaking down, and their capacitance values are changing.

This or a failing hard drive.

These are the 2 most common issues we find on a daily basis.

Also check your video card and your power supply for bloated caps.
