Hello, Hopefully there is a Linux guru here that can answer this newbies question. I am attempting to setup my first Linux machine using 32 bit Linux Mint Xfce. Problem is the laptop keeps getting hung up while trying to boot from the live CD. I am trying to install on an old Dell Inspiron 2650, so there is not an option to boot from a USB and I am using a DVD. I am planning on having Linux as the only OS. I have verified the boot disk works on two other laptops. The laptop in question boots fine off of a Windows XP disc. I have tried various combinations of the following boot options: acpi=off, noapic, nomodeset, nomce, xforcevesa, irqpoll, noirqpoll. While booting, it gets hung up at the following line: platform eisa.0: Probing EISA bus 0 ETA: The laptop is running Phoenix A13 Bios, the most recent version for this computer according to Dell's website |

No SD cards, this laptop doesn't have the ports. There is no PCMCIA card installed, I even pulled the floppy drive (yes, its old). Also add "nolapic" and "acpi_osi= " to the list of unsuccessful options. I have read of people using Linux Mint on these old computers, but not having this hard of an issue. |
