TL;DR/ADD section:

Requirements:

Same FW software for both my home and his business

Home LAN is used typically (netflix/hulu/webbertubes/torrents)

Business LAN is windows ad hoc (we'll work on that later).

I need to be able to remotely manage the firewalls.

Needs to support IPSEC tunneling.

I need to be able to monitor and control ALL the bits

Needs to have good support/documentation available.

More info:

Firewall management is pretty simple - what I'm wondering is, in your opinions, what up-to-date open-source firewalls out there are worth investing my time into mastering. I have enough on my plate that I'd rather not install/config/test 5 or 6 different firewalls only to find out they don't meet my requirements.  I'm tech-savvy (it's my job) but I haven't toyed around with open-source firewalls for a few years. Used to manage a Pix (that's how long ago) and used to run a Smoothwall on my own network for basic security/routing/QoS (3 or 4 years ago) so I have a little experience.

A family member needs two built for his small business and my eldest progeny is approaching his tween years so I'm going to need to be able to fully monitor and control my own LAN soon. The plan is to build or buy some smallish PCs with 3 NICs to do the job.

Probably pfsense.  You can read more here.  It meets your requirements and is managed via https.

Thanks. I probably should've posted in GD. pfSense has been one of my front-runners for years.
