Been off the Linux wagon for a while. Cruised over to Distrowatch and noticed that today was the release of the newest Ubuntu 13.04 aka "Raring Ringtail".

I'm staying with 12.04 since it is the LTS release and the "regular" releases usually don't support my graphics card on my netbook. Here in about a month, the guys over at Mint will have Mint 15 out…kinda want to see what they change on Cinnamon this time around.

I'm posting from 13.04.

I'm running it on a Lenovo Thinkpad T60. Centrino duo processor with 1GB ram.  It runs smooth and quick even on this old hardware(2008).  Everything works including Netflix Desktop.

I like it a lot.  Unity has come a long way.

12.10/Mint 14 didn't support my graphics driver so I just stayed with 12.04/Mint 13.

What kind of netbook?  Did you try adding "additional drivers"?

Go to System Settings>System>Software and Updates>additional drivers tab in upper right corner.  Might solve the problem.

12.04 ran OK on my Acer Aspire One netbook(532h), but it seemed a little much for the processor even with 2 GB of ram.

I had much better luck with Puppy - Three Headed Dog on the netbook.  It took more configuring for everything to work, but it was lightning fast.

Im using it on a macbook. Its noticeably faster. Only problem is suspend quit working. It worked on 12.04. so I have to hard reset everytime I fire it back up after suspending

My Asus has a little Atom processor and 1GB of fixed memory. It would always hang after you woke it up from sleep. Then after the .1 revision it just wouldn't boot period (gave some x-server error). Went back to the LTS version, lo and behold got the cedar view graphics drivers installed and I don't have a problem with it.

I'm trying the xubuntu version out on a dell inspiron 1100 mini, working pretty well.  It was a crappy little netbook my wife used during graduate school, I do nothing more on it than some at-home web evaluation work on my days off/spare time.  For the basic use I'm using it for, its great.  Much faster than the stock OS it has previously.  Very clean looking.

I installed it on a VM but have yet to really check things out. Canonical really needs to standardize on what's LTS and what isn't.

Ubuntu Release/Support Schedule

This should clear up what's supported and for how long.  I usually use the latest release just because I find it fun to upgrade.

I liked to have the latest and greatest but then got fed up with the instability and stuck to LTS.

finally got sick of chasing the "fixes" and "work arounds"  It seemed to be a never ending battle of fixing something that another fix broke. it once took me 2 weeks to get audio on my laptop only for ubuntu to abandon alsa or what ever they were using

I do love me some XBMC though. I have it running in some form on nearly every machine in the house
