Ok, looking at tablets. Not sure if I want one, as most of the time, I'm either at home, with my computer, or at work, with my phone. It would probably be used primarily as an E-Reader (have an original kindle now). But I'm sure I'd have games and movies on it as well. As of right now, I'm thinking either a Kindle Fire HD (wifi only) or a Google Nexus 7.

The reasoning for the fire is, I already have a kindle, and I read alot of books, so amazon built in, and the ease of use is a big plus. Downside is, I'm not used to their hardware, and I'm not sure I'll like the OS.

The reasoning for the Nexus 7 is, I'm used to how the Android OS works and runs, I need to learn more about rooting a nexus tablet, and if it's needed. A plus for being completely integrated with google services, youtube, gmail, facebook, etc. Lots more apps too. Downside is, I'm not sure how I'll like it as an E-Reader.

Sell me folks!

TLDR; Kindle Fire HD or Google Nexus 7

Before you decide on a tablet, take a look at the Samsung Chromebook, if you have a Best Buy near you.

We got one in January and we both like and use it.

No. I have a laptop, I like the form of a tablet. I have no need for another itty bitty laptop.

You may want to hold off on a tablet since the Nexus 7 replacement should be  released in a couple of months.

I hate to be a kool aide drinker, but you will be disappointed in all of the others except an ipad mini/ipad. Seriously. It is like buying a heritage arms .22 instead of a ruger

I did get hands on with an Ipad gen 2 and 3, but not the newest one, I really didn't like them, I have not tried the mini yet.

Any other suggestions/opinions, also looking to see if there is one with expandable memory

I have the high end Asus Transformer Infinity.  I was going to buy the optional keyboard that turns it into a laptop but I like it as is.

I use it for travel and when I'm watching a movie lounging about.  It always works, connects to networks, links up to smartphone, fast and responsive, has a SD card slot to expand the memory or watch movies from.

You can do the Amazon thing from it but I never have, I'm not much of a book reader.

The Nexus 7 is nice but for any web browsing you'll want the bigger tablet.

Side by side next to an iPad the Infinity is a better machine.

I use a multi monitor workstation and never thought I would dig a tablet........they are cool.

Expandable memory isn't as big of a deal as people seem to believe. For example, get a 32Gb Nexus 7. That's a ton of room. Oh, you want to take a bunch of movies with you on the plane? Get an OTG adapter (about $2), a card and a card reader OR a USB flash drive. Root the device (very very simple) and install Stickmount. You can now use the SD card or flash drive as an external hard drive and use it when you need it.

I have the ASUS TF700T Transformer with the docking station keyboard.

It's a great tablet and I've very happy with it.

If you are looking for one with expandable storage look at the newest Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.  They aren't much more than the nexus 7 for the Wi-Fi only version and can use up to a 32GB micro SD card.

Honestly the nexus is the way to go though.  If you are always going to be connected (Wi-Fi) then the onboard storage should be fine, ebooks don't take up that much space.  Everything else you could store on the cloud.  The nexus is also a pure Google experience device, android the way Google intended it.  Nexus devices always get the latest android updates before any other device so you should always be running the latest version of android, at least until they decide to stop supporting the device.

I have a Galaxy 2 7.0 and a Nexus 7. Both are great.
Rooting was easy XDA FORUMS NEXUS 7
I gave the galaxy 2 to the kid. Rooted the Nexus and use stickmount with a 128gig thumb drive. Move around what I want so the thumb drive isn't hanging off the bottom.
I read, watch movies, surf, ect, have about 50+ apps installed. Remote into my work and home computers, Teamviewer, to download stuff, freak the family out with random music, or just turn on the camera to see what the dogs are doing.
Recently I installed a NES and SNES emulator and Sixaxis (allows ps3 controllers) and I can play all the older games.
