I'm looking at building my first PC.  In the past I've swapped hard drives, added memory, and swapped out a processor (daughter card for the P2, IIRC).  I've got some computer guys at the office who can help with the assembly as well, but I'm not quite finished figuring out the build.  My current computer is a 3 year old ASUS laptop, with a Core 2 quad and Nvidia 240m graphics, so definitely not state of the art.

What I've got so far:

Current parts list
Quick-notes-

Asus P8Z77-V
I5-3570K, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO air cooler
2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
Samsumg 840 Pro 256 GB SSD
NZXT Phantom 630 case
Win 7 (Pro?) 64 OEM
Looking for suggestions on:
Power supply
Video Card

Most strenuous use:  Gaming, to include World of Tanks, potentially new FPS or flight sims (have DCS on Steam, but my laptop doesn't seem like the place to run it).

Comments and suggestions requested on the following:
I'd like a video card that I can use for at least 2 - 3 years, but probably NOT going to put a Titan in there at this point.  Am open to SLI/Xfire at a later date (I'd prefer an NVidia card, but could probably be convinced to go Ati).
Not sure on the power supply- recommendations?
Additional hard drive storage (2 or 3 TB?)
I currently have several keyboards and mice that I can use, though I'm thinking of trying out a trackball if anyone has a suggestion.

I've got a 23" 1080P monitor that I will likely use this with, at least at first.   I'd like to up to multiple monitor support in the future, which I expect to be able to do with whatever video card I get for this.

I need a case with filters on the input fans, as I have a black lab who will be shedding approximatley 11 3/4 months per year...  If

Thanks,

Mike

First of all, great looking build so far!

You can buy any case you want FYI and add fan filters to it to keep the dust and hair down: http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l2/g47/c223/list/p1/Fan_Accessories-Fan_Filters.html  Very common product, very common use. They are quite cheap as well. If you are open to maybe changing the case a little bit, I would suggest a Level 10 GT case. They are wonderful. The NZXT will work fine though.

Power Supply - A 750w Gold Rated power supply is what you are looking for. That will work for your needs moving forward if you decide to SLi or Crossfire GPU's. I would recommend Seasonic, great power supply brand. Also, when buying a power supply for a custom build...I can't stress this enough, BUY MODULAR. Make sure it's a modular power supply. No modular, no go!

Video Card - Asus GTX 660, ATi 7850 or 7870. Those will do the trick for you. Don't feel like you can't buy better than these though if you really want. But if you are looking to SLi in the future, these are pretty decent on the budget.

I would second the GTX 660 TI, i just put it in my build less than a month ago and am loving it. Im running far cry 3 and crysis 3 on triple monitors with the settings decently high with really good frame rates. Not to pricey as GPU's go, SLI ready if you choose to go that route later on as well.

What's the important of running a modular power supply?

I'm in the beginning stages of my first build and it was an option that I was unaware.

When you buy a typical power supply the cables are all built into the power supply. This creates an issue when trying to practice good air flow techniques because you have a lot more cables that need management.

What a modular power supply does, is let you plug in or remove only the cables you need. this allows you to control a little better how your power is distributed across the power supply rails. it also allows for better cable management, and better airflow.

when custom building rigs, they really are the only way to go. so much easier to deal with, and far better in the long run

Well, I placed the order last weekend and got everything on the list.  Power supply was a Seasonic 750w Gold, which is modular.  I did order the ASUS 660 Ti, though it is on backorder with Amazon (it'll likely be here before I get the build done, but if not the 3570's built in graphics are likely better than the 3 year old card in the laptop, so it'll still be a step up.

Only thing I still need to order is a regular hard drive, probably look for a 1 - 2 TB to store downloads and install software that either doesn't need the fastest disk access or that won't get used that often.

I ordered the Phantom 630 case, and though it was listed as a mid tower in a MaximumPC review, I'm a bit agog at the size of the box.  I'm not sure it'll fit in the room, much less under the desk.
