Friday a Viewsonic monitor on a MAC Pro running 10.6.8 blinked and the screen "expanded".

The best example is if you had a spreadsheet and a couple of columns to the right and a few rows to the left are off the screen.

We can use the mouse to scroll over to the right and see the time, volume control, etc in the upper right corner or scroll the screen up to get to the trash in the lower left but can't get the whole display on the screen at once.

We tinkered with the controls on the monitor to expand the window a bit and center it and also reset the PRAM.

Played around with the resolution and right clicked the desktop to monkey with the view options.

I put another monitor on the MAC and it displayed the same symptoms.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It's annoying to have to move the screen around.

What is the resolution set on the computer. What you describe is typical when the resolution is set higher than the LCD's max resolution.

800x600 at present.

We've run the gamut of choices and the symptoms are the same.

Identical MACs with the same monitor are set to 1024x768.

We set the dock to the smallest magnification and placed it on the left of the screen to access the trash without having to scroll the screen up.

At 800x600 (which is a lower res than it was set at when this happened) some of the toolbar items in the top right corner are visible, but some, and the time/date still must be scrolled to.

AHA!

Somehow the MAC regressed to OS10.6.4.

I had gone to the Desktop preferences and noticed the screen was different.

I'm doing an OS update, will see if this cures the problem.
