Giving this a shot, bear with me.
I purchased this laptop in early October last year, and it was running pretty smooth up until a week and a half ago, when I noticed the battery icon would indicate power was switching between using battery power and DC power (charging battery), even though the charger was plugged in the entire time. If I was doing something resource intensive at that time, like playing a game, the frame rate would drop at least 75%, and the on/off button, and battery & power LEDs on front of the laptop would all start blinking together until I unplugged the DC adapter. Once reinserted to the laptop, the lights would start blinking after ~10 seconds of being plugged in. Interestingly, the huge frame rate drop still happens even when running off of just the battery. This all started off as being something that occurred occasionally, but over time it got worse to the point where the charger no longer would charge the battery if the computer was in use. With the computer off or in sleep mode, I can see the battery LED lit indicating that it is being charged, though, the LED goes out every 3-4 seconds, suggesting that the charger is still switching between battery/DC power. Since the charger doesn’t really work, I’ve resorted to using a charger for my netbook. It seems to be able to keep the battery charged, however the netbook charger is a bit weaker than the original one. Netbook charger DC output 19V 1.58A Original charger DC output 20V 4.5A I don’t know if I’m harming the laptop or netbook charger by doing this, but it seems to keep the battery charged while using MSOffice, youtube, and other websites without drama. However, as soon as I open AutoCAD (initial loading only so far), or enter a game, the LEDs and on/off button start blinking again. I bought this laptop through newegg, but I don’t recall what warranty I had chosen (30-day,1 year, 2year?); it's not listed on my order confirmation either. I would send it off for repair however that would take weeks, if not a month or more, and I need this computer as it’s my only computer that can operate AutoCAD. Local computer repair places, like Microcenter, have some mixed reviews, so I’m not very confident of dropping it off there. Any suggestions on a DIY-fix? |

your going to overheat and possibly cause a fire byusing the netbook charger i would HIGHLY suggest buying a new Lenovo adapter. could it be just a kink in the old adapter? The original adapter looks new without so much as a scratch on it, but with it not working properly, I'll have to place an order for a new one. In the meantime, would it be harmful to charge the laptop battery with the netbook charger while the computer was off/sleeping, then just use the computer off of battery power? I ask because I really have no other way to charge the battery and use the laptop right now. |
