Which flavor of Linux would be the easiest to transition into? I'm very done with Windows.

no way to know what you will like.  the best thing is to just try several and stick with the one you like.

I'd suggest running a live Linux CD (i.e. you burn it to a CD/DVD and boot from it) to get a feeling for what versions work best  for you before installing.

Mint and Ubuntu are a couple of popular ones.

Ubuntu or Linux Mint (for that unity free ubuntu feel), are probably your best bet.  You can run either from a USB drive Live, to try before you install.

ArchLinux for when you get more familiar with Linux and want a lean OS.

As above - burn a few Live CDs and try a few out –– it is free.

Probably Mint, if you want a 'complete' desktop install out of the gate.  The current Ubuntu release is pretty good too if you use Gnome Classic instead of Unity.  As you read and learn more about Linux, try other distros and see if there's another one you like better.  I prefer Debian and/or its derivatives.

Zorin OS.

Zorin is basically Ubuntu without the Unity desktop environment.  I've been using it as my primary OS for about a year now.  If you have been a Windows user all your life, you will find the Zorin OS 6 Core distribution to be very easy to get the hang of.

Good Luck.

Appreciate the advise folks. Just bought a new Toshiba Pavillon laptop and tried Mint, Zorin, Peppermint, Suse, Netrunner. All the latest editions but only Trisquel installed without issue. Quiet happy with it.

Interesting thing I've come to find is that any Ubuntu based OS cannot install on this Toshiba labtop. It makes me wonder if there isn't some bit of hardware that is blocking it. A couple of GNU base OSs have no issue but the GNU OS really seems to lack when multitasking. Window 7 runs fine and that is strange.
