So... I have built the desktop and have everything in operating condition, but that is to say that it runs, not without problems. At first start up everything will be fine, I can log on and play ARMA II/DayZ/Anything for as long as I want (longest was 6 hours). Everything seems to be going fine, until 1 of 2 things happens. Either I alt+tab to look at a webpage map for the game, or if I quit to do something and come back later without restarting, the system acts like it does not recognize the video card. After about 1 minute, I will get a black screen, and once it refreshes I have the error "nvidia windows kernel mode driver version 301.42 stopped responding and has recovered." Now, I have checked to make sure I have the latest updates for BIOS, NVIDIA, Windows, and everything I can think of. It may sound like a temp problem but the GPU usually runs between 50-54 C. The highest I saw when i was testing at the highest graphics possible was 68C. I have tried to search that error and mostly I get that it is a conflict between NVIDIA and Windows. I tried going back a version or two but I get the same problem. My question is why this doesnt happen after a fresh restart, but only after changing screens or restarting the game at a later time. Here are the specs and I run two ASUS monitors. That is an issue everyone is having with the .42 Nvidia drivers at the moment. Just gotta deal with it.
it is more pronounced in BF3. They are working on getting it fixed right now, I think I downgraded to the 299.xx drivers and had NO issues whatsoever, lost a few FPS, but am using a GTX670, so it makes up for it. |
