[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Windows XP activation infinite loop

Anybody ever fixed it? I decided to cut my losses and format the drive again, and do a fresh install, again. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever fixed it in case this roll of the dice goes wrong too.

I forget all the details, but it was an issue with the SP2 upgrade with a specific hardware combination.

I had the issue way back then, and the fix's listed on the tech boards solved it.

I just don't remember what it was. It was an issue with AMD CPUs.....

I'm using an Intel chip and motherboard. I installed it again, it did it again. I need to run one Windows app but it's not worth it. The install of Slackware is already underway.

If you change your mind and decide to install XP again, create an ISO of your install disk and slipstream in SP3 and the latest WGA hotfixes. Then burn it back to CD and try again.

Yeah I did, they want $60 for help since XP is end of life'd and that's not going to happen. Slackware is working great as usual so no biggie.

sounds like something wrong with your installation media

The fix is easy, all you do is patch after the install or use a real OEM XP disk and not to use the restore disks that came with your computer. What it was is the image from HP and other manufacturers had the wrong driver installed for the AMD CPU's and it would cause the infinite reboot.
