reboot and select proper boot device
this is my sons laptop and when powered up this is as far as it will go. There is other stuff on the screen but this seems to be the key part of the message this is windows 7 |

Gotta go to BIOS and select boot options. More than likely it got switched to a non bootable drive like Floppy drive. Just go to BIOS and search for the harddrive, they will be in order of 1 first drive to boot from all the way to 3 or 4. Most have it like this;
1st boot - Hard drive 2nd boot - CDDrive 3rd boot - Floppy disk Make the hard drive the first drive to boot and reboot it and still comes up with error, that means your harddrive isnt being recognized and something is wrong or the boot portion got compromised, you might be able to do a REPAIR on that drive if you still have the Operating system disks. Not sure though, this only works so so. Some drives just cant be fixed. If you replace the drive or get a new computer, dont toss your old one if there is stuff on it. It may not work as an operating drive but can still be used as a storage drive and you might be able to get the info off it. But that gets a lil deeper. One thing at a time. lol. |

Try the above suggestion first. Although this typically doesn't matter, it might just in your scenario. Being that Win7 is so new, I have yet to see a new machine running it that will give you that error.
If that doesn't work, then a new hard drive might very well be in order as the boot sector might be shot. As was said, don't throw the old drive away as the data has a very good chance of being recovered (a new drive of comparable size or bigger, a $30 cable kit to connect via USB, and a free piece of software can get you back to where you were in short order....I use this method when I don't have a current ghost image). One step at a time of course. |
