Hope somebody can tell me what's going on.
Got a new laptop with Windows 7. I can't shut it off without W7 trying to install updates, so I wait. What's the use of having an "on the go" laptop if I can't even shut it down without waiting 15 minutes?
Fucking thing wants to update every time I use it. Anyway to stop this nonsense? |

And then restarted, rechecked, and installed the newer updates it finds. And repeated this several times? It can't install all the updates at once, and must repeatedly install/reboot/find new and install new, til it's done. |

Quoted: I let it update until it's done and then I shut down. It still does it every time. ![]() I bet you are one of those guys that jumps at a red light, creeping forward a few feet, every time the walk light turns off for the other directions... It will stop, once you have the updates installed. A "Virgin" install of W7 has about 200 updates by now, and a service pack as well. That's about 6 reboot cycles. Just sit down with it and let it download and install all the stuff. Learn how the Icons work in W7 that tell you what's going on with the installs (hint, near the clock), or just go back to windows update over and over until it says "none needed" What you are experiencing is normal for a new Windows machine. Cooperate with it and it will be done faster. Dont, and you'll get infected and have to trash the install and do that, plus this, all over again.

So yes, maybe it will take a few cycles of turning it on. However, I do let it run its course and install these updates before shutting down. I wondered if this was normal and thought something might be wrong. |

If you really don't want to wait for the install and want to do it at a later point, just select "restart" and when you are back to the POST screen manually power down. Updates will not install if you restart instead of shut down. I do wait for the installs to finish. |

I told you how to do it (select "restart" instead of shutdown, then manually power down @ POST). I don't see what the confusion is here. |
