My dads computer is infected with a rootkit and can not get rid of it.Tried Maleware bytes, TDSSkiller by Kaspersky, Spybot and Hijack. Does anybody here have any info on this. The only info i could find was to go to device manager and check find hidden devices then go to plug and play and find Tdss and disable. Tdss is nowhere to be found. getting ready to reinstall operating system, any ideas ?

Thanks..

Rootkits are difficult to remove. Thats part of what makes them a rootkit. I know the standard response for many viruses is "format and reload the os." But with rootkits that advice holds up even more. I wouldn't want to be left guessing if its actually been removed.

You can try Combofix. Sometimes you just have to reformat. Boss's computer at work got some kind of rootkit and no matter what I did I couldn't kill it.

put the drive in a 2nd computer and malware scan it from the.

(before you do connect it to the 2nd computer, turn off the 2nd computers AutoPlay)

or try this bootable cd instead.
