One of my games is constantly crashing. Arma2 Operation Arrowhead.

It'll play fine on high graphics for about five minutes then it'll crash, citing Arma2 OA has stopped working. The error report is empty and I've deleted all mod folders for the game so it's just the bare game. I've even uninstalled then reinstalled. Someone has told me it might be a memory problem but there was never any follow-up after that.

System specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium

Intel I5CPU at 320ghz

64bit operating system

Radeon 5570 Graphics card.

If anyone needs any more info just ask. I'm also not that computer knowlegdable so if you could keep the computer lingo to 1st grade level, that'd make it much easier for me.

If it is only Arma2, and not other things it is application specific, could be incompatibility with your drivers, or it just doesn't like something about your rig.

I had played it for over a year and then one day it just started doing it.

It sucks because it's by far my favorite game.

I don't have a backup.

I know that I should but I don't have anything to put it on.

Clean the PC and dbl check all the heatsinks. If you have something that will monitor the temps, do so.

I have three fans including the processor fan and my room is set at a cool 65 F. The processor never gets above 45 C and I've played HUGE games like Oblivion for hours on end without even a stutter. The graphics card is less than a year old and it's never been overclocked simply because I don't know how and it's never needed it. This game is the only one out of the hundreds I own that has ever given me even the slightest problem.

I actually took it apart the other day and went at it with two cans of air so it's clean.

It's the game, I know it is but that's as far as I've gotten.

That's stock.

My computer has never been overclocked in any way shape or form.

That's my mistake. It's 3.20 ghz.

nothing about it being a video car specific bug, unless a game or driver update borked it.  update game and driver MORE!

Bad RAM? Or a driver update would be the only things I could think of that would suddenly cause crashes.

This. Look for driver conflicts.

How do I do that?

I had this problem with BF2 years ago. It ran fine, then one day started freezing up or crashing. I finally figured out that it was a conflict between the game and an update to my anti-virus software. I changed anti-virus products and all the problems instantly stopped.

I'm not saying that this is your problem, just something to consider. You might try googling  "Arma2 OA started crashing" or something to that effect. The answer is probably out there on a gaming or computer forum somewhere. That is how I solved my problem.

Good luck.

I had to do it with two Xp machines recently because of Nvida updates. 7 looks just a little more complicated but with no CLI dancing.

I followed that site and did everything but I'm still not sure what I'm looking at. I'm guessing display adapaters is the one I'm looking for and there are two, one for my Radeon 5700 series and an Intel graphics media accelerator.

The tutorial said notice the changes but it stops there. What do I do after that? I don't want to start uninstalling stuff without knowing what it will do before-hand.

ETA: I went ahead and uninstalled the graphics media accelerator and played the game for a good 20 mins untill it crashed. I guess the next logical step would be to check the RAM? Cam I pull the RAM while the computer is running?

Sorry OP, I am not a Windows guy so I couldn't help with the drivers. To test the RAM, simply pull one stick (or pair) from your computer then run the game. If it crashes, put the sticks back in and try the others. If it does not crash, you found the bad RAM.

better ram testing method would be to use memtest.

you'll need to burn it to a cd though.

Except for that takes days to complete a full pass. Pulling sticks, while not the most conclusive, can be done in under an hour.
