I had McAfee virus/firewall program. I had to dump it last night because of the worms/virus I got from an outdated program. I now run free AVG and Malware Bytes but now my microsoft firewall will not turn on. I tried the Micosoft Fix it and they could not turn it on. I want to try another program for a firewall.  Any recommendations? Thanks

They like Comodo and Outpost.

There's also a product from TallEmu (Online Armor) that they no longer review due to a spat they had.

This or any other router with DD-WRT. Go hardware not software.

a software firewall will not protect your from malware.   malware comes from clicking on an infected link and other means

You could run Untangle on a separate box as well.

I would suggest trying to fix the firewall that came with Windows.  If that firewall won't turn on, it could be an indicator of a much bigger problem.
