My GF is considering buying a seat of Quickbooks Point of Sale, not sure which version.
My question is: can you install a program that is for XP on a PC that is running NT? Thanks |

Maybe. Maybe not. Won't know until you try because that's specific from program to program. (My guess is, knowing Intuit, it will not.) Note however, you are about to something irresponsible and stupid. NT is not safe for point of sale shit. Point of sale shit that runs on NT is not safe anymore. That operating system is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD and it has FIFTEEN YEAR OLD SECURITY FLAWS IN IT. Have a problem, and you'll lose your merchant account and have justifiably angry customers. Cobbling shit together like that when your money and cc account handling is at stake is flat out stupid. Spend the money to get proper equipment or don't do the sale that way.

She is opening a consigment store. I have a PC that I can clean up and give her to usethat runs XP Pro. I didnt think about security issues, just thought I rem that some of the programs will run on both.
A local attorney is giving her the NT machine. She is looking a QB POS package with hardware from a local business that is going out of business, and I mentioned going on Ebay to see how much to pay, got to looking at just the software. As you have deduced, I am not a computer guy, just know enuff to be dangerous. Any other advice you can give me to pass on to her is appreciated. Thanks again |
