Ok, this is driving me a little batty. My wife has a laptop with Win 7 home premium and in my quest to get her machine and mine (running Ubuntu 10.10) i am hitting a bit of a wall. One of the suggestions I came across suggested creating a new share by clicking 'start', right clicking 'computer', selecting 'manage', right clicking 'shares', and selecting 'new share'. Seems pretty straightforward, however, when i right click 'shares' the only option i get is 'help'. no other actions are offered. My question is, is this a feature in this version of 7 that is disabled? Or is it user error?
Also, has anyone successfully gotten a Win 7 machine to play nice with Ubuntu? It seems that Win 7 really likes to kill Samba. |

Are you trying to create a share on her win 7 system?
You can do that in Win 7 Home Premium by right clicking on the drive or folder you want to share, then click on sharing/advanced sharing or properties/sharing/advanced sharing. Make sure you do that with an admin accnt. You should be able to see that share in linux if you are on the same subnet. |
