Hey guys I am going to get a new laptop pretty soon and will need a printer to go along with it.
I have narrowed it down to two different printers and would like to know if anybody here has any experience with either one and which one you would choose.

The two are
HP Photosmart Premium:link
Kodak ESP 9:link

I have great luck with CPU’s but horrible luck with printers for some reason I seem to go thru them about as fast as a pair of socks.  It seems like every printer that I have bought in the past dies within 6months to a year.  I hope that the printer companies have got their act together and have started to put out a product that lasts. So my main concern would be I want something that will last more than a year
Other criteria include
I want a printer that will print the best quality photos possible.  I am also going to get a new fancy wiz bang digital camera and there is no sense in spending a bunch of money for a new camera if I am only going to be able to print blurry grainy photos so picture quality is of upmost importance
Also
I want something that will be factory supported for years to come I don’t want to go buy a new printer then a year down the road the factory stops selling the ink or the photo paper for it
So what do you guys think between these two?  Is there something else out there that you would recommend more than these two?

I have a kodak 3250, and I love this thing. My wife prints all the pics she takes on this and you cannot tell the diffrence in the quaility from a photo place. Also it only runs about 80 bucks, Ink replacements are 25 for black and color togeather I think the individual ones are like 15 bucks. This is my vote. I wouldnt get the other kodak unless you really need a fax too

I have a Kodak Easy Share 5300. I would not recommend it.   This may only be relevant to your question because I've had numerous interactions with Kodak's customer support and they are great to deal with.  Every breakdown I had in the first 6 months or so, I received replacement parts for very quickly, and once even had some free ink thrown in.

I've only contacted HP's support once, and it was on the business side of things, but it was still a horrible experience.  I say go with Kodak as far as customer service is concerned.

Honestly I've never had a printer that really gives a good return on investment. When you can get 12 cent 4x6's at Wal-Mart off your thumb drive, it's really more of a headache than it's worth.  What I would tell you is this:  Save the few hundred dollars on a printer, invest that into an even BETTER whiz bang camera (or a lens for it), and get your prints at a walk up counter.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

Feel free to ignore this if you want... but my suggestion based on these requirements is to use a photo lab to print your pictures.

Buy a decent b&w laser printer to print your text pages, and do the rest through a lab, such as WHCC.

For the most part, any relatively inexpensive (less that $500) photo printer is a disposable piece of crap (IME). To top it off, you will spend a metric buttload of $$ feeding it ink, trying to keep the heads unclogged (wastes ink when you have to reprint) and generally not get nearly as good of a result as a pro photo lab will give you.

Sorry if this is pooping on your printer idea... I have come to loathe printers more than any other piece of computer hardware. Specifically the inkjets (best at photo quality). Waste of time and money.

I have an HP similar to what you have listed and like it.  Haven't had any problems with it but I don't do whole lot of printing or scanning. Decent printer for $150 or whatever it was at Walmart.

I know what you guys are saying about just going to wall mart for the picks.  But Im kind of out of it when it comes to hi tec gadgets and would have no idea how to get picks from my camera into the wall mart system for processing.  At least if I get the home printer I could have my brother come over and show me how to do it a few times and then I’ll be good to go.

From some of the replies it seems that others out there hate printers as much as I do.  It really pisses me off.  they should be able to make a printer that after six months doesn’t flip a magical switch that says jee Im just gonna be a pile of junk now go out and buy a new one.

Some of the mixed reviews have me thinking that maybe I could save money by just getting a printer that scans, copy’s, and prints and leave out the photo part.  I would kind of like to get the fax option simply because every once in a while a situation comes up that it would be really handy to be able to transmit and receive a fax.  Now Im more confused than before too bad this computer stuff in not like gun stuff cause if it was I would just “get both”
