I was planing on building a mini itx box to use as a low power server when I stumbled upon this. GuruPlug Server Plus Runs on only 5 watts. Maybe double that with an external drive and you've got a file server you can leave on all the time without killing your electric bill. Plenty of other features to keep the average computer geek happy. All for just $130 which is a lot less than the server I was originally planing on building. I can't wait until it comes in so I can start playing. |

Eh. It's nice and tiny... but doesn't appeal to me that much. I'd spend a little more, and get something like This. Then you get the ability to add memory as you like, add a hard drive if you want, you get more USB, you get an SD slot, WiFi, a dual-core Atom, and an HDMI output.
If you don't want a hard drive, boot it from a flash drive, or from an SD card. It's pretty flexible. And having an HDMI output.... you can also do something useful with those files. I haven't measured the power consumption on mine, but let's estimate it at 30 watts. That's what, $2.50 or less to run for a month? |

Well, this does have wifi, bluetooth, a microSD slot and can boot from the SD slot or usb or an external HD. HDMI doesn't matter to me because I don't own a TV. I'm looking at this mainly to replace my WRT54G as an AP with the added ability to be a NAS, print server, torrent box, etc. They also have a display version which has an HDMI port. I also haven't messed with Linux since I upgraded to Windows 7 so, this will force me to relearn doing things through the command line. ![]() |
