Does anybody use Apple's photo editing program? I don't need the capabilities of Photoshop.
I have used Apple's music production software in the past with excellent results and was thinking of pulling the trigger on a new Mac with the Aperture 2 software pre-installed. Thoughts? |
| I've been using it for about 1 1/2 years now. I never really had the time or energy to learn all that Photoshop had to offer. I really like Aperture. Very intuitive and easy to get started. Workflows are pretty decent once you get it figured out. What type of Mac are you planning on using it on? If it's a laptop, better be a MacBook Pro. It is very processor intensive. |

I'm making a rather big assumption, in that Aperture and Lightroom are pretty darn similar (since I've never seen/used aperture).
They're completely different animals than photoshop. Much more useful for the photographer... cataloging, developing, grouping, keywording, sorting/filtering, etc. all your photos. You may come to a point when photoshop is required to progress further (ex. remove someone from a picture, create a panorama or import a face from one picture to another), but for 90%+ of what the average photographer needs to do, these programs are THE programs to use. Just don't think of Aperture as a substitute for Photoshop, and you'll be good to go provided you actually need the functionality that Aperture provides. |

So how does Lightroom and Aperature compare with Elements? PS (full version or elements) is an image editing program. Lightroom/Aperture can do some editing, but does much much more... such as cataloging, keywording, comparing, browsing, slideshows, grouping/stacking, organizing, categorizing, etc. They're two different animals. MOST of what everyday photographers need can be done in LR/Aperture, although at some point you'll probably need to do a major modification (such as combining two images, changing someone's face/expression from one picture to the other, etc) and will then need to hop over to Photoshop. |
