Bought a Nikon D40 and I'm looking for a waist pack or over the shoulder (versapack) style that will let me carry the essentials and 2 extra lenses. I already have a couple of larger bags that are not real portable.

What are you using that works well?

My main bag is the Tamrac Super 614. But that probably doesn't qualify as a waist pack.

If you only have your camera and 1 or 2 extra lenses you might look at the Lowe Pro SlingShot 100AW

I recently picked up a Crumpler 6 Million Dollar Home Camera Bag to fit just the need you are looking for.  I wanted something smaller than my Lowepro backpack, but large enough for an extra lens and external flash.  So far this bag is meeting my needs, and I also like that it doesn't completely "look" like a camera bag with mucho $$ gear inside  I also like that the padding is very good, but the bag itself is not super stiff, if it isn't full it will conform somewhat.

They have a bunch of different sizes if one wanted smaller or bigger.

I have one of these for touring - not for backpacking
But I did hike with it down in the Grand canyon in March

Main Backpack for hiking

Main pack for transporting everything.
Domke OutPack Photo Backpack
Sucks for long hikes. Used to be all I had so I suffered during my first trips to Utah.
No real support for your shoulders.

Thanks for the replys, I'm liking the Slingshot 100. It Looks a little bigger than what I was originally looking for but its hard to tell from just pictures, and I dont want to have to get something bigger in a couple of months.
We have a Ritz photo in town and I think I'll check them out this weekend. Hopefully they have some of these bags in stock to check out.
