I just need to be able to crop, rotate, re-size, and make color photos into black-and-white. Nothing else.

I spent wasted $100 on Photoshop Elements 4.0; I will never live long enough to get past "Go" with that crap. I could learn Chinese much quicker and easier.

Last night I spent wasted half an hour downloading EasyShare. Get this: Half the photos in "My Pictures" are for some reason invisible to the EasyShare; I can't use it to modify them because it acts as if they weren't there. They were taken with the same camera, mind you, using the same settings, same everything ... WTF!!!

Is there some program out there that might work for a photo-moron like me?

Photoshop Elements should do everything you want.
Have you checked the photoshop tutorials thread tacked up top?

I don't want to install it again. It takes over the computer and I can't do anything even remotely photo-related without going through Photoshop University.

I guess I really am retarded. I need Retardshop. Is that a free download?

What about the software from your digital camera? Any I've used have photo editing ability.

It sounds like you want Picasa from Google.  It's the closest thing to iPhoto on Macs that's available for PC's.  It might do everything you need. picasa.google.com/

zoom?  Any reason why you have your avatar upside down?  The only reason I ask is the American flag is upside down which is pretty much a no no.

It's really hard to beat Picasa from Google, for user-friendliness.  My kids turned me on to Picasa a couple of years ago.  I'm also using Photoshop Elements 5.0, but find myself still using Picasa, most of the time.  It's free.  It works.  Makes e-mailing pics absolutely simple!

A no no?  Never heard that one except in threats from a couple nutty LEO members here.  Look-up section 8a of the United States Flag Code.  It's a sign of distress.  Think about the gun laws in this country and oppressive law enforcement when it comes to our black rifles.  The AR-15 logo upside down represents the rights wrt black rifles that are in distress.z

Thanks RyJones. I have found XnView to be perfect for my purposes!
