how many of the digital Canon... or Nikon cameras from 2005  will be working and take the quality pics that I can with that camera in another 50 years?
the old mechanical cameras from pre-1970 were built to last.   Most of the cameras built now are made to throw away.  Digital is taking over for most general photography, but film will be around for a long time.

As many of you know I have both old and new cameras.  Do most of my shooting with Nikon digital but still use cameras as old as 100 years for some things.

more people should get out the onld camera.. they are fun (like old guns.  I have a springfield 45.70)

sigh

Many years ago, as in 15+, I was looking for a usable Leica III, I wasn't concerned with the variant but IIRC IIIcs were found most often,  but everytime I happened on one in a shop I got the "rare blah blah, hard to find blah blah special variant blah blah" pitch which of course was followed by a price that was just outrageous sounding to me.

Maybe it's time to start looking around again.

Ok... For us guys from the younger generation....I am only 31

What is the big deal with Leica cameras?

I grew up shooting black and white film with an AE-1 and a 50MM lens.
It was an excellent camera for its time. Built like a tank.
That old AE-1 is still in the family, and is still working, last time I checked.

I am extremly impressed with what the new D-SLR's like the 20D have to offer.
For one, the thing is built like my AE-1, like a tank!

I think my 20D is better than 35MM quality... and who ever heard of switching up to ISO 3200 at the drop of a hat and shutter speeds of 1/8000. All that and I can fit over 200 images on one tiny little CF card, edit them however I please, and send them anywhere in the world in seconds!

The AE-1 seems downright primitive compared to that! I feel like I grew up in the stone age!
