The show opens tomorrow, so I'll post up any neat camera news here. Crossing my fingers that Nikon pulls something really neat out of their ass for this one. They announced they have a medical partnership earlier today (yesterday in JPN) received 500 million yen in stock options for it.
Crossing my fingers for some badass camera tech. |

Didn't Nikon just cancelled the DL series? I'm looking for a compact or mirrorless that could do 4k and has audio input, other than Sony (which all overheat in 5 mins and crappy lens). May end up with a Panny.... Yeah, but the DL line was a casualty of the earthquake and flood they had early/mid last year. They kept trying to rebuild it, but the line was just totaled. They filed for (accounting term, not a *OMG freak out*) notice of extraordinary loss about it. That entire division got written off from damages. Quoted:
Nikon is heading toward bankruptcy. Doubtful at this point. Yeah, last year was a huge hit, but they still have plenty of ways to recover. They are a hugely diversified company in a lot of different markets. Financially even with the massive insurance write off this fiscal year (ends for them in a week or so) they are still near average across the board on all of their markers. Took a huge hit, but nothing that can't be recovered from. Especially true if the stuff I've been seeing and hearing over the last few months are true. It is entirely possible that everything I've heard is wrong, but from tomorrow to mid summer (depending on reveal) Nikon is likely going to go aggressively into the market this summer. Possible I'm wrong, but I've seen a lot of neat things floating around the industry with things Nikon is playing with. If they get it to market, Canon is going to get hit in the balls. |

I haven't heard squat from anyone about the show. Kinda weird. Saw something about a 100 year anniversary camera? Special Edition D5, D500, and lens set. https://www.dpreview.com/news/8100419712/cp-2017-nikon-shows-off-100th-anniversary-d5-and-d500 |

Finally some news. Nikon anniversary D5 and D500 set photos below. That said, Nikon went on the record with what I thought they were going to do as a company. -They are going to restructure the company a bit, but we already knew that. -..."bringing in multiple mirrorless cameras at an early stage." Translation to me is that they already had some in the words. Perfect time would be this summer IMO. -They are going to aggressively approach the camera market. Most likely trying to get some of Canon's big contracts. -No plant closures -Resources concentrated on medium/high end and professional cameras, lenses, and mirrorless. -paring down product lines slightly to have fewer sku but increase quality and production output. -they still want to develop a high end compact camera. No other info was given though. Oh, and the 70-200E has a ton of glass in it. Wow. http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/002.jpg http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/003.jpg http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/004.jpg http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/005.jpg http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/006.jpg http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/007.jpg http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/img/dcw/docs/1045/857/009.jpg So, how much do I need to sell a niece or nephew for one of those?

And a price tag to match.......$2800. Is it a true 70-200 or is it another focus breathing fake 200 like the VRII? I miss my 70-200 every day, but more like I miss the idea of what it was. That focus breathing shit was one of the motivating factors in selling it. That, and I wanted longer.

But it comes at a price. I'd love to have one, but I don't need the speed, and just can't find a good reason to take the plunge. Of course, one of the things that makes America great, is that you can buy what you want, and not just what you need. |

I will be keeping an eye on the used market though. Find one that's all ugly and beat up and snatch it up for half price like I did the 400
