I take quite a few automotive photos and I would like to find some portable lighting. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have found a lot of good information here.

Definitely check out strobist. Also how serious are you about your pictures??  If very serious that helps redefine 'portable' from speedlights up to strobes w/battery packs and softboxes.

Speedlights are the fastest and most versatile. There may be a power issue, but it is easy to add another unit and box/umbrella. I went with a 12 v inverter and some flat panel flashes. The recharge rate isn't like house power, so there is a minor issue.

If you get some studio strobes, the Paul Buff mini vagabond works well.... I use it with my Elinchroms. Should work with most setups, and I get about 500 full-power pops on a charge with my 600rx.
