So we're looking at getting a stand-alone scanner to convert all our old film negatives to digipix, and ran across this one, Wolverine F2D.

Any opinions on this unit?  Some reviews say it's great, others say it sucks.

If not this one, and say you had a $200 budget, what would be a good one?

Thanks!

I was seriously considering buying it, but there were enough complaints of inconsistent illumination across the field that I figured it would be better to find a more professionally-built scanner. I don't know what that might be, though.

How many pictures are you looking to convert?  How much time are you willing to spend?

Using a service eventually becomes more cost efficient.

That's what I said.  I've got maybe 300-400 negatives, wife probably has more.

If the film is cut into strips, that will take more time as you have to keep reloading.

Sending it out will cost more but is simpler and saves you time and effort.

On another note, you may find that scanning yourself is not as quick or simple as you may have to remove dust and or scratches using software.

Have you looked at the Epson V500 or V600?
