I have a Nikon D3000. I need a flash that is better than the pop up flash. What are some good flashes for under $200 bucks that ya'll have used?

I got an SB600 for $200 on sale, but the regular price is quite a bit over that. There seem to be quite a few third party flashes.

I have been looking on Amazon but other than the Nikon flashes, I am not sure what is good and what is junk. I have looked at the Sigma EF-530. It looks like a good flash but I don't want to spend money on junk that will break a month down the road.

Nissin  is what I used to sell for a third party flash..  Decent quality,  well made and semi reasonable in price.  I liked the 866 for a big flash & the 466 for the small flash.  We started to carny the 622's because Nissin had a hard time delivering their 866 MkII's.
Anything you get for less than $200 is going to be a bit skimpy on features and just barely more light than the camera's pop up flash. IMHO.

I've used the Nissin 866 for 2 years now and been reasonably pleased with it. The brand seems to be decent, not as heavily constructed as Nikon but servicable. I went with it because at the time an SB900 was over $200 more, the price difference is much less now.

I would get something that can act as a remote off camera flash. As you know, your D60 can not act as a remote flash commander alone, you'll need something extra like a speedlight commander to trigger the off-camera flashes. I suggest researching the Nikon Creative Lighting System, knowledge of it can open of many new possibilities.
