Say I wanted to start doing some portrait photography in the future. Straight and proper color balance generally isn't very flattering in regards to skin tones, so I'm looking over options. While my camera is digital and has pre-sets for white balance, it's an older model and lacks the ability to dial in a specific color temperature in degrees Kelvin. It does, however, have a custom wb option. So I'm looking at either;
A - Using a warming filter (such as the Tiffen 812) B - Purchasing a set of cyan warming cards, which you use exactly like a white card by pointing the camera at it and pushing the custom white balance button. C - Doing it in post with Photoshop CS5 For those of you that already do this type of photography, which method do you prefer, and why? |

I shoot in RAW. Adjust color temperature in post with Photoshop/Lightroom. +1. I would never choose either of the other two options. There is one thing I will do if I'm shooting on white seemless and want to keep it white but I'm shooting a subject who could use soem warming in the skin tones is to put a 1/4 CTO gel on the key light while setting the white balance based on the background lights. |
