I'm working on a little hunting project that will need to be mounted to a simple camera tripod. Was wondering if you guys could give me the name or even a link to what you call the female part of the threaded bolt adapter that would normally be attached to the camera? I'm searching online but not really getting the results for the parts I want as I'm pretty sure I'm not using the correct terminology. Would just need a part to attach a metal or plastic case to top of something like this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5581295&CatId=1581 |

Quoted: How about "tripod socket"? thanks for tip. I'm still coming up with tons of adapters from one size socket size to the other. I'm guessing someone sells just the socket itself right? Is there a standard size, thread pattern for tripods? I'm not seeing much on various websites about this particular tripod Could one just epoxy on a particular sized bolt onto an object to mount it to a tripod? That would be a last option, but just to get a rough prototype out in the field for testing? |

Yes - the standard tripod thread is a 1/4-20 bolt.
I don't know offhand of a supplier for more finished versions (if you have access to metalworking equipment, you could make your own). One other possibility is that some tripod knobs/screws are designed to have both male and female features, so you could probably cut off the male portion and then epoxy the rest of the knob with the female portion to your equipment. For example, see: http://cgi.ebay.com/20-Short-1-4-Camera-Tripod-Bracket-Screw-Male-Female-/190470970319?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c58f45bcf |
