I've been reading some reviews and some say it's worth it and some say it's not. I'm confused, what does the hive mind recommend?

It seems fans that have an AC plug is better so that it doesn't draw power from the Xbox's USB or outlet?

Been looking at the Nyko Intercooler TC.

Don't go Nyko. It reroutes your power and will more likely than not short out your Xbox. If you want to get a fan, make sure It has its own power supply.

Don't touch the Nyko's cooling fans, they have destroyed a couple of my friend's 360s.

I think the PS's in the Nyko's have a habit of dying leaving the box's vents blocked. With my mod'd out of warranty box I cut a hole in the case and attached a pc fan.

The simple answer, is keep the power supply on a level we ventilated surface same goes with the box itself. Don't put it on carpet, if you have animals take the vacuum and so caned air to it every so often and you will be fine. Those little fans void the warranty, especially the Nyko. When they fry the weld themselves tot he back of the box. The fans really aren't needed do as stated above and take a break now and then and all will be fine.

I've got one of these in front of my XBOX, which is sitting about 1" off the table, blowing air under it.

Costs about $3 at Target........................

was it where it used the xbox's power and it melted together at the socket connections?

I had a Nyco Intercooler on my 360 since the day i got it. Been using it for years but was always amazed by how hot the console got even with the Nyco. Earlier this year I told a friend who is a much more hardcore 360 player than I about my heat issue with the intercooler and he warned me to get rid of it, they tend to burn units out.

I took his advice and took off the Intercooler to try it out. The 360 now runs much cooler and quieter than ever.

If you should ever decide to find an outside cooling source, never use ones that attach to the back of the Xbox, they void the Microsoft warranty; or at least that is what the Microsoft Representative told me while I still worked for GameStop.

Ok one more time, Here is what you do to prevent the RROD, Get an old milk crate(the kind that school milk comes in) and put your 360 on top of that and leave it alone and you will be good to go....If i was any smarter i would paint these bastards white and call them Xbox cooling stands and sell them and become a multi-zillionare.........Give them a try seriously, They will probably clash with the furniture but very effective. Yes i am a Hillbilly and Yes i love Duct Tape.

I had a Nyko on my Xbox 360 that I first bought.  I owned the Xbox for 2 years and sold it to my friend about a year ago and he is still playing it and its going strong.  It keeps the core temperature way down.   If you have the change one of those laptop cooling pads would work great.

already ahead of you, but i used a black metal mesh paper tray inverted upside-down for airflow since my xbox is vertical
