I'm really surprised that FASA hasn't issued a cease and desist over the use of the MechWarrior name.  I'm guessing this mod will have a different name before it ships.

I've always been a fan of the MechWarrior series, and I really hope they manage to pull this off properly!

FASA would be Battletech. Mechwarrior is MS.I do not know how the two co-exist.From what I have read on the forums the mod team's are trying to put the original Battletech spec's for mecha  on top of Mechwarrior Mercenaries. The old battletech spec's were much more difficult compared to the mechwarrior games.

I played the paper version of Battletech while working at pizza hut in between washing pan's and cutting pies as they came out of the oven.It was really fun.I cant imagine the youngsters here playing. No video.

FREEBIRTH SCUM!!!!

I LOVE Battletech/MechWarrior.  I played MW4 online for ....near its entire run...until the "end."
Looks like I'm buying a new PC next winter.

FASA hasn't existed for years.  The BattleTech IP belongs to WizKids (for now?).  The Clicky-tech Mechwarrior game died last month.  The Classic BattleTech game is now owned by Catalyst, carrying on the original tabletop tradition.

I believe Microsoft owns the IP for BattleTech stuff on computer, but has been sitting on it and not doing anything for a shamefully long time.

Wow, I guess I'm really out of touch.

I know Activision held the license for Mechwarrior for a number of years before it passed on to Microsoft, but I assumed Microsoft had let it lapse since it hadn't released a Mechwarrior game since 2002.

Thanks for the update!

If they bring out a new one, I hope they get rid of the silly damage counting system.  I once loaded a Kodiak with sixteen machineguns and killed EVERYTHING by getting behind them and like sandpapering them to death due to silly cumulative damage scoring system.

Also, the mechs need to be able to duck/prone out, or squat for the chickenwalkers.  Stomping around bolt upright all the time is SUPID.

16 machine guns from the rear in pen and paper BT would have a decent chance of ripping a mech open in a couple turns (which I think is supposed to represent 10 seconds on the battlefield)
especially using aiming rules so you could increase the chance of it all being rear torso hits
throw in the max tech rapid fire rules, which seem to be how the machine guns operate in the MW computer games, and I could see it happening

From what the game designers are saying the game is based on Battletech, not Mechwarrior. So the damage mapping should be different. All of the audio and visual effects are supposed to be unique to Living Legends.

FASA still exists, it's just a holding company now for their IP. In late 07 they got the license to MechWarrior back. A FASA designed mechwarrior game would make me happy beyond belief. Microsoft fucked it 8 ways from sunday

Mechwarrior 3 > Mechwarrior 4
