This is the Digital Combat Simulator/D.C.S. flight sim thread. D.C.S. is a flight sim that's arguably the most realistic one out there on the civilian market as far as I could find. Some aircrafts (Mostly the recent ones, since some of the older ones were ported from Flaming Cliffs 3 which had the simplified stuff and the company said they don't want any more "Simplified" planes) have the entire cockpit clickable and all systems modeled. Examples of the full fidelity aircraft include A-10C (BRRRRRRRRT!) F-86 Sabre Jet MiG-15bis MiG-21bis (The plane I mainly fly in DCS.) Mi-8 (HiP.) helicopter P-51D Mustang. Hawk T.1A L-39 Albatross Dual Seater BF 109 K-4 KA-50 Black Shark Helicopter, UH-1H Huey Helicopter Fw 109 D9 Dora. Currently missing from the steam version (Will be moved over once fully developed I think) include Mirage M2000C C-101 AvioJet Upcoming aircraft with full detail include the F-14 Tomcat with multi crew functionality, and a few others like the Cessna a-37, Viggen, Eurofighter Typhoon (Arguably going to be the deadliest aircraft so far) etc. I think there was plans to add a Harrier and F-15E with full sim but they might have been cancelled. Limited simulation aircraft (They are still pretty detailed but lack a clickable cockpit, etc, so hope you have a good HOTAS.) include: F-15C ![]() Su-27 MiG-29A and MiG-29S Su-25 Su-33 A-10A The base sim itself is free and includes the Su-25T which has no clickable cockpit or full-sim, and an unarmed training TF-51D mustang which does have full avionics/cockpit simulation. I'm not very good at taking charge sadly, or how to do these kinds of things, but if you're interested in it, or want to setup some kind of official ARFCOM DCS group, feel free to post here. Thanks. |
| I bought it on a steam sale for damn near nothing a while back. I haven't really played it much. I tend to stick with x-plane, FSX, and take on helicopters depending on what I'm wanting to do. Usually civilian helicopters. I really don't have much interest in combat sims but I hear that DCS is one of the better flight sims out there. |

I'm a huge DCS player, I own all the modules currently out and I've built myself a decent sim pit. But for the last month or so I haven't touched it, the latest updates seem to keep creating problems, that and I'm waiting for the Gazzelle like crazy, it was supposed to be out by Q1 but the bastards still haven't told us when it's coming. |

Is there an option to "Subscribe" to users or something and every thread they make, get's emailed to you? Just curious. |

OP, do a search, there are some of threads on this topic that includes pictures of our sim pits. In the meantime I'm keeping my flying bug satisfied with FSX 757 and 737 legs. |

BTW, if you like the F-18, there is a development group on the FSX side that includes real F-18 pilots that has created a free F-18 upgrade. I downloaded it two days ago and it is very impressive. Of course it's FSX so there's no blowing stuff up. |

We are in the same situation. I haven't touched DCS in a month and probably won't until they get all these update SNAFU's worked out. Yeah I fired up DCS last Friday in hopes that the new 2.0 update would be pretty great but it turns out the update was completely fucked up and they pulled it down before I got home from work. |

I have a bunch of the modules, but really don't fly enough to be competent in any of them. I have enough trouble just staying in the air.
Any suggestions on what the simplest aircraft to fly is? Quoted:

My first three flights ended in a fireball. Damn it's touchy. Reply fail. That's in reference to the gazelle. Yeah I hopped in it thinking it would handle a lot like the Huey, not so much With a bit of control tweaking and about 20 hours I've got her down pretty good. We need to fly together again, it's been a while.

Try the SU-25T as there are some hands on tutorials that go through the operations of all the systems and how to use them. Try and remember the key bindings as they are explained. It's not a bad idea to keep a notebook for quick reference, but I think you can pause the game now and look through the controls from the menu. Something that wasn't the case not all that long ago. Plus, the Frogfoot is really a fun to fly aircraft. |

Alright I'm going to get back into DCS.
I tried it once many years ago but my computer wasn't up to snuff and I had a very simple joystick. Just wasn't cutting the mustard. What's the gameplay actually like? Is this more of an aircraft simulator or is it also a true combat simulator with campaigns? Any dynamic campaigns available? Particularly interested in the WW2/Korean War era planes and the Huey to start. edit: I've been playing a lot of War Thunder on full-sim mode but it's been leaving me with some to be desired. Although the planes do fly and act like real aircraft, to an extent, I wouldn't go so far as to call it a true-to-life simulator. |

It has far more capability (you can build campaigns including air and ground units), but most of the campaign stuff isn't really built that I've seen yet. |
