So yeah. That's my plan this year. I mostly play on consoles, but there's a lot of PC games I want to play, but I'm not sure how to go about it. A guy I work with has a case for sale cheap with fans, but it has no power supply in it. Or maybe I'll buy one assembled and ready to go? I dunno. Tinkering and fiddling with the damn thing kinda has me worried. I'm a lowly console peasant, I like no muss/no fuss gaming. I don't know anything really about messing with the OS or whatever other settings there may be to get video cards and such working, but I'm willing to learn. I want to be able to play games like BF4, games like Skyrim and FO3, Minecraftin' and such. Budget, I dunno. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I don't mind paying for quality if need be, if that makes any sense. Let's say $1K for the PC itself, not counting a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Intel or AMD? ATI or what's-the-other-one, I don't even know? Liquid cooled or not? Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations? |

Could be a start?
I don't know much about computers. This is where I would start. |

eta: if you aren't including windows in the build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2AqwH Similar to first build with SSD and cpu cooler for overclocking http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2AqKN |

Something like this is good for $1k.
You can probably find some components for cheaper. ETA: The power supply posted by the guy above me is a better deal. |

These parts are on new egg and amazon.
Biostar TA970 AMD-6300 6 core black edition G skill memory, sold in sets of 4GBx2 buy 2 sets. Thermaltake 600w power supply NZXT case of your choice I like the phantom 410 Any decent HD ..solid state if you want something different GeForce 650 GT TI (1 or 2GB both good) Should be about $600...then get the operating system of your choice. |

It doesn't sound like you will be doing any overclocking or multi-GPUs, so I'll suggest this. You don't need to worry about liquid cooling if you're not overclocking, and 550w PSU is more than sufficient for a single GPU.

Just some advice from my build:
Choose the CPU first and match the max RAM frequency/voltage. Spend some money on the graphics card. I bought a GTX760 SC for $250 after not really being satisfied with my $150 GTX650 Ti for BF3 and 4. And I have found a HDD loads slowly, but not slow enough to warrant a SSD. Other than that, building a starter PC is pretty easy. |

Not exactly your spec but here is what I just ordered parts wise to mate up with my existing parts.
Processor: Intel 4930k Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme RAM: 32 GB Corsair Vengence 1866 10 10 11 10 30 HD: 240 GB Neutron GTX SSD (primary boot / app drive) Sound Card: Creative Labs Recon 3d Fatality Pro Not the highest end but upper mid I'd say. Should last me a wee bit. Vid cards aren't ready in my opinion yet holding out for the 800 series from Nvidia. Also I'd likely reccomend something with Vram north of 3GB with 3GB as a bare minimum if you can get it Liquid cooled will raise the price considerably. Currently running on an open loop Exos system rated to 1k Watts cooling and a closed loop for the CPU. If I recall right the Exos was ~480 not including fittings / tubing / fluid / quick disconnects. (use this for video cards only presently will exapand to mofsets and chipset soonish) CPU cooler was around 90 bucks. H80 (H80i now) or the 100 series if you have room for it, is an easy and relatively inexpensive solution if you are just looking to water cool the CPU. |
